An in-depth focus on DESIG*ness: the project, the method, the guidelines

The new DESIG*ness video is now online - an in-depth look at the ideas, practices, and learning experiences behind the cooperation partnership, a European initiative dedicated to teaching and learning inclusive design and diversity in higher education.

In the video, inclusivity is described not as a fixed or absolute concept, but as a relative value shaped by relationships: between individuals, communities, society, and the environments we inhabit. This perspective expands the conversation beyond accessibility, moving towards what DESIG*ness calls environmental well-being - a design approach aiming for the highest possible level of comfort, safety, and quality of life for all.

Here, inclusive design becomes a shared learning process: educators reflect on the need for inclusive content across curricula, while students discover that truly inclusive design begins with meeting people with real needs - beyond labels or categories.

Through powerful reflections and workshop moments, the video reminds us that designing inclusively is not about “designing for disability,” but about changing the mindset and understanding that empathy is one of the strongest foundations of design.
